ZVEČAN — Serbian Minister for Kosovo Goran Bogdanović stated on Saturday that the Serbian government would do its best to normalize the situation in northern Kosovo.

He told Tanjug that the situation in northern Kosovo was strained and marked by fear and uncertainty, which was why everything needed to be done to help the local population survive and return to their normal lives.

The minister expressed expectation that if the situation stabilized, the barricade which was rebuilt in the village of Zupče late on Friday would be completely removed soon, “perhaps even the very next day”.

Bogdanović explained that the local Serb population had rebuilt the barricade after the EULEX police had arrested one individual from Zubin Potok, who was later released when the authorities established that the said person is not the person they were looking for.

“We do not oppose fight against organized crime or arrest of all those who committed crimes and took part in dishonest acts, but you cannot intercept innocent people on their trip, abuse them and beat them while expecting constructiveness,” Bogdanović stressed. S

The minister told representatives of the international community that Serbs in Kosovo were willing to cooperate and solve all problems by agreement, which was also the case in Zubin Potok.

“We want to solve problems through dialogue,” Bogdanović said after a three-hour meeting with municipal presidents from northern Kosovo and Kosovska Mitrovica district head in Zvečan.
